浅草神社の創建については興味深い話が残されています。ある日檜前兄弟が宮戸川で漁をしていたところ、網に人型の像が何度かかりました。疑問に思った兄弟は知恵者の土師真中知命に教えを請い、それが観音像であると知ったのです。三人は観音像を発見した後に仏の道に励むようになりました。土師真中知命は僧となり、自宅を寺にして観音像を奉りました。土師真中知命の死後、嫡子が観世音の夢のお告げから、土師真中・檜前兄弟の3人を三者権現と祀ったことが浅草神社の始まりです。
さて年に一度の三社祭では優雅なびんざさら舞(無形文化財)が社殿と神楽殿にて奉納されます。びんざさら舞は特定8町の者しか踊ることが許されない舞で、奉納することで五穀豊穣を祈願します。笛の音に合わせてびんざさらの板を叩いたり擦り合わせ、「シャラシャラ」「パチパチ」など器用に様々な音色が聴けるでしょう。

そしてびんざさら舞奉納の翌日正午には、氏子地域44町から約100基の神輿が参加する連合渡御が開始となります。神輿は一度浅草寺に集合し、順に寺を後にして町に繰り出します。境内の人混みの凄まじさと各町の神輿を一挙に観賞する貴重なチャンスですので、ぜひカメラを構えてシャッターチャンスを狙いましょう。
最終日には三社祭が一番大盛り上がりする本社神輿3基の渡御が行われます。浅草神社には一之宮(土師真中知命)、二之宮(檜前浜成命)、三之宮(檜前竹成命)と計3基の本社神輿がありまして、荒々しく神輿を上下左右に振る「魂振り」をします。
喧嘩神輿や城南担ぎなど全国各地には激しい神輿渡御があるものの、三社祭の魂振りも負けず劣らずダイナミックです。人混みの多さも災いしてケガを負うことも珍しくないので、見物を楽しみつつも身の安全には気をつけてください。[:en]Sanja Festival is a festival to be held in Taito-ku, Tokyo.
