そして波除稲荷神社は激しい波風を鎮めたことから人々に信仰が広がりまして、雲を従える龍、風を従える虎、一声で万物を威伏させる獅子、それぞれの頭が奉納されました。これら頭を担いで行った祭礼が築地獅子祭の起源となります。しかし奉納された頭は獅子頭一対を残して1923年の関東大震災で焼失するなど波乱に見舞われていました。現在は再興を願う人々らの協力によりそれぞれが再建を経て、大事に神社へと奉納されています。

さて築地獅子祭は本祭が3年に一度、その間は陰祭が開催されます。気になる2017年は陰祭となりまして、千貫神輿と雄雌の大獅子の中から1基が渡御を行う予定です。祭り最終日には待ちに待った弁財天お歯黒獅子御巡行が開催されます。お歯黒を施された獅子は重さにすると約700キロと巨大です。ちなみにお歯黒が施されているのは雌獅子です。弁財天と名称にあるのは、獅子に弁財天の御神体が納まっているからなんですね。

また神輿渡御は男性が行うものとのイメージが強いですが、築地獅子祭では一部を女性区間として設けており、お祭り好きな女性も渡御が行えるように配慮しています。ぜひ陰祭では弁財天と雌獅子と一緒に渡御の熱気を体感してみてはいかがでしょうか？

Well, the Tsukiji lion festival is held once in three years for this festival, during the mega festival.
