[:ja]鶴岡天神祭は山形県鶴岡市で開催されるお祭りです。このお祭りは別名「ばけもの祭」とも呼ばれており、奇祭としても知られています。お祭りの由来は901年に学問の神として知られる菅原道真が醍醐天皇により九州大宰府へ左遷された際、そのことを惜しむ者らが顔や姿を隠して見送りに集まり、泣く泣く酒を酌み交わした出来事から来ています。左遷を命じたのは醍醐天皇でしたが、裏では藤原時平が暗躍していたとの記録があります。つまり左遷を残念に思う者らが姿を隠していたのは、藤原氏らにあらぬ追及をされないためでした。このことから鶴岡天神祭では人々が「ばけもの」に粉しているんですね。

さてばけものになるには男女共に頭巾と編み笠をかぶって顔を隠し、服装は長じゅばんや股引を身に着けます。それから男性は女装、女性は男装をして、全く誰にも正体が見破られないように工夫を凝らすのです。街中の民家に上がったりしながら道端で出会った人にお酒をふるまう姿は少し不気味かもしれません。この時のばけものは無言でお酒を振る舞うため少し怖い感じもしますが、ぜひ美味しいお酒をありがたく頂きましょう。最近は観光客や運転者向けにジュースをふるまうばけものも増えてきました。さらに三年間正体が見破られずに鶴岡天満宮でお参りが出来た者は願いが叶うという言い伝えがあります。ぜひ叶えたい願いがある人はばけものになって、三年間お参りに参加してみてはいかがでしょうか？

この他に鶴岡天満宮神輿では鳳輦神輿が白装束を身にまとった担ぎ手によって厳かに渡御する様子や天狗舞の奉納、さらにパレードなども観賞できます。
