さて烏森神社の創建にまつわる不思議な伝説をあなたはご存じでしょうか？かつて藤原秀郷が平将門を討伐するため、戦の勝利を稲荷神社に祈願したことから物語は始まります。その時に稲荷神社の白狐が出現して秀郷に白羽矢を与えました。秀郷は白狐からもらった白羽矢を使い、平将門を制圧することに成功したのです。その出来事から秀郷は感謝の気持ちを表するため、稲荷神社の創建に着手したのですが、まだこの時点では鎮座する場所を考えあぐねていました。しかしまた不思議な出来事が起こります。秀郷の夢の中に白狐が姿を見せ、創建すべき地を烏が集まる場所と示したのです。このお告げを守り、秀郷は現在の場所に創建を決定したのでした。

さて烏森神社例大祭では「本社大神輿」の渡御が行われるのですが、毎年ではなく2年おき(偶数年度)となります。近い年では平成30年度、平成32年度に予定されています。ぜひ偶数年度には迫力ある伝統の本社大神輿渡御をご覧ください。この本社大神輿はサラリーマンが往来するSL広場から出発し、各所氏子地域を練り歩きます。

さて烏森神社例大祭の見どころは「千貫神輿」で間違いないでしょう。金色に輝く八棟造りの神輿は煌びやかで絢爛ですが、他の神社の神輿と違う点があります。それは四隅に止まる烏です。よく目を凝らすと鳳凰の足元に烏が見られます。神輿は昭和5年に有名な職人の山本正太郎によって造られた傑作です。そして千貫とあるように非常に大きいのが特徴で、一般的な神輿と見比べれば一目瞭然でしょう。
