さて愛染まつりの元をたどると「夏越祓」という行事が6月30日に行われていまして、聖徳太子が593年に愛染まつりを開いた人物なんですね。そのことから愛染まつりは日本最古のお祭りとしても知られています。

一般的なお祭りの見どころは男性の担ぎ手による神輿や山車ですが、愛染まつりではお嬢さんらが鮮やかな花々で装飾された紅白の駕籠に乗り、町内を練り歩く「宝恵駕籠(ほえかご)パレード」が見どころとなります。お嬢さんらは愛染娘という存在で、毎年オーディションで選ばれているんですね。駕籠が近付けば愛らしい声で「愛染さんじゃ～、ほっ、えっ、かぁご～」と聞こえ、気分が明るくなるでしょう。現在は愛染娘が宝恵駕籠に乗っていますが、少し前の時代には北新地などの芸者さんらが乗っていました。愛染娘の美しさや愛嬌から元気をもらい、ツラい夏を乗り越えましょう。
